Hello, World
I'm Andy Manoske
I’m a product leader and open source software developer who builds enterprise security and infrastructure technology to protect and power the world’s most critical computing applications and innovation.
Career
I’ve led the development and products and product/engineering teams that have had a significant impact on open-source security, infrastructure, and software engineering. These include:
HashiCorp Vault Enterprise, Boundary, and Radar
As HashiCorp’s first product manager, I led the creation and development of all products within its Security Product Line: HashiCorp Vault Enterprise, Boundary, and Radar.
I led these products from creation/ideation to industry leadership, scaling from Series A with a team of 3 engineers through IPO and later acquisition by IBM to a team of 100+ driving over $500 million+ in ARR.
Vault has had a significant impact on software engineering and computing. Alongside Terraform it played a major role in the creation of concepts like Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and Secrets Management , and was vital in the development of the fields of DevOps, DevSecOps, and Platform Engineering.
AlienVault Open Threat Exchange (OTX)
As the product manager for AlienVault’s research lab, I led the development of Open Threat Exchange (or OTX) from formation to becoming one of the largest open threat intelligence platforms in the world: processing over 2 million malware samples and Indicator of Compromise (IoCs) data a day.
OTX was one of the first open source threat intelligence platforms in the world and one of the first to leverage native AI/ML to support threat attribution.
It remains a major security research tool and was instrumental in investigating major cyberattacks such as the 2014 Sony Pictures Attack, the 2015 Anthem Data Breach, and exploitation campaigns for major vulnerabilities like Heartbleed and the Flash DailyMotion campaign.
NetApp Encryption, Lockheed Martin BlackCloud, and national security projects
As then the youngest product manager in NetApp’s history, I led the creation of its encryption products: NetApp Storage Encryption (NSE) and NetApp Volume Encryption (NVE).
I also led product management for NetApp’s national security business, focusing on feature development and special projects for customers in US/NATO militaries and the intelligence community.
This included the use of its encryption technologies and advanced compliance suite for the development of Lockheed Martin’s BlackCloud, the first cloud platform capable of securely storing and processing US/NATO classified data. BlackCloud was the precursor for cloud platforms such as AWS SC2S and Azure GovCloud.
While some of my national security work at NetApp is still classified, I’ve written about topics I encountered there like Cyber Warfare and Post Quantum Cryptography and Cryptanalysis. Recently desclassified/publicized projects I worked on include the development of the P-8 Poseidon.

Life
Outside of work I enjoy traveling, gaming, writing, gaming, and martial arts. I hold a 2-Dan (弐段) in Kendo and compete in pistol and rifle/carbine marksmanship in leagues such as USPSA.
I’ve been playing Warhammer 40k for over 20 years. Since 3rd Edition, I’ve played Imperial Guard/Astra Militarum, Chaos Space Marines, and Adeptus Custodes. I currently compete as an Astra Militarum player in ITC for the Midnight Judges Gaming Team.
I’m based in the NYC Metro Area but originally hail from the West Coast: Seattle, Honolulu, and the San Francisco Bay Area. This is plainly evident by my relative overuse of the word “dude.”
